Kanter Legal

About

Integrity. Passion. Diligence.

Richard Kanter founded Kanter Legal in 2016, after several years as an attorney representing professional athletes and sports brands.

Coaches dedicate their lives to developing successful young people on and off the field in an increasingly volatile marketplace. Athletes work tirelessly to succeed in a highly competitive industry with small windows of opportunity to maximize their career earnings. Entrepreneurs and small business owners invest sweat equity and financial capital to chase a dream, while the odds are stacked against them.

We respect the purpose that drives each of our clients and match the passion required to accomplish their goals. We do so with the attention to detail and diligence required of competent legal counsel.

At Kanter Legal, each client relationship is a partnership. We care deeply about our clients success. Richard founded the firm to provide this personal level of attention from an ethical attorney.

Richard Kanter

Richard brings over fifteen years of sports industry experience to Kanter Legal's clients. His unique background provides an informed perspective on the interests of both parties in a negotiation, which leads to better representation for the firm's sports law clients. His diverse experience includes positions with the Baltimore Orioles, University of Kentucky baseball program, an Olympic sports/NFL agency, an NBA agency, the Washington Wizards, and the Brooklyn Nets.

Richard is a detail-oriented, problem solver. He loyally and zealously represents his clients. However, he has the foresight and communication skills necessary to maintain strong relationships with the other side.

Richard splits his time between Yorktown, VA, and Washington, DC. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, playing golf, volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and teaching sports law at the VCU Center for Sport Leadership and the George Mason University Sport Management program.
